Machida needs a new strategy

In his last match inside the UFC Octagon, former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship holder Lyoto Machida was criticized for the lack of engagement that he showed against Dan Henderson, winning in the end via a split decision.

And now, faced with the task of facing the up and coming Phil Davis, The Dragon will need an entirely new strategy to get the better of the American as he looks to get back into the picture for a shot at Jon Jones and the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

And the man who believes the Brazilian needs a new strategy is the man he will face at UFC 163 Phil Davis. Speaking to a local media outlet, Davis stated that the best chance Lyoto Machida has is by coming after him and he specifically stated that the best chance he has against him is by going for the win and taking the upper hand.

He mentioned that sitting back and waiting for things to fall into place is not a strategy that works at this moment and if someone who wants to win a match cannot rely on that strategy. Davis also stated that Machida thinks that he can squeeze past against him with a close decision just like he did against Dan Henderson but mentioned that it is something that he will not let happen.

Both the fighters are closing in on a shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship as the number one contender and are sitting within the top 10 rankings in the division. Davis has a couple of wins under his belt and has a record of 11-1 with only Rashad Evans having won against him.
Lyoto Machida will take on the youngster on the 3rd of August at UFC 163 in Brazil.
